TYW’s goal is to utilize its Core Values and launch into the world well-rounded, emotionally and intellectually intelligent individuals driven to pursue excellence in all spheres of their lives.
What is Trenton Youth Wrestling?
Trenton Youth Wrestling (TYW) is a year-round, 501(c)(3) athletic and support program, for both boys and girls, designed to stimulate all around personal growth, build self-esteem and lifelong skills, and honor achievements utilizing the sport of amateur wrestling as the vehicle.
What does Trenton Youth Wrestling do?
TYW currently operates as a school-based program for grades 3-8 operating in the Trenton School District. TYW is affiliated with the U.S. Olympic Committee through membership in USA Wrestling (the national governing body for the sport of wrestling in the United States). As a recognized USA Wrestling Chartered Club, TYW receives liability insurance and ensures all of its Coaches have been vetted by USA Wrestling in keeping with good child protection practices
How does Trenton Youth Wrestling work?
TYW utilizes a unique combination of wrestling (physical exercise, team building and life skill learning), education (character, literacy, the arts and experiential) and community service to develop Trenton youth into well-rounded individuals, confident and ready to take their place in the world. We accomplish this through a partnering model with some of the best local and national organizations doing work in these distinct fields as well as tapping into the strong New Jersey wrestling community. To our knowledge, no other organization in Trenton uses this mix of programming.
TYW is currently a school-based program for grades 3-8, currently operating at six schools; Hedgepeth/Williams Middle School, Rivera Community Middle School, Grace A. Dunn Middle School, Mott Elementary School, Gregory Elementary School, and Parker Elementary School. Over time our goal is to expand and scale the program to be present in all Trenton Public Schools elementary (13) and middle (four) locations and become the wrestling program pipeline to Trenton Central High School.
